Senate Republicans today called on Gov. Brad Henry to bring legislators back next month into special session to deal with the state's budget crisis.
The governor earlier this week suggested a special session in January to deal with this fiscal year's revenue shortfall.
"It's very clear that more reductions in spending are inevitable," said Senate President Pro Tem Glenn Coffee, R-Oklahoma City, "and agency heads are awaiting our direction as to how much their budgets will be reduced.
"We have a good feel for the direction revenues are heading, so why wait any longer," he asked.
Coffee released a statement after Senate Republicans met in a closed caucus gathering at the state Capitol.
